Restaurant Ipoh 新怡保饭店 @ Ipoh

Even though Ipoh is publicly known as the "Retirement Town", it still develops like hot cake as there are more and more tourists coming here to visit. Anyway, the most common phenomena in Ipoh is that the youngsters will either go to KL or overseas to study or to work, leaving their senior parents at home. You might think that they will be bored to death without their children by their sides; but, you are so wrong! In fact, most of them are more adventurous in further exploring Ipoh for good food. And, they are getting pickier by the day.

The NEW IPOH Restaurant was discovered by my parents during their past time. It is quite a popular restaurant in town especially for family customer. It is a typically Chinese restaurant for ordering dishes!
Eversince I am older, I prefer to eat simpler food - less fried, more fiber. Perhaps, in this age, I should also start to take care of my health so that in the future, medical bills won't that enormous. For the dish above, it is the steam tofu with fried shrimps on top (^^) Simple yet yummy!

As for those with bad tummy/ digestive problem, eating more vegetables most probably will help. Yup, we should start to eat more vegetables since young age! Another simple dish here - clear fried vegetable (pardon my direct translation)..hahahahaah

Lastly, since my parents still adore some meat here, we ordered the yum sandwiched pork (Waaa, my translation getting better or worse??!!!@@). Anyway, the portion wasn't too large so that we won't overfed ourselves. Hahahaha!

Overalll, New Restaurant offered a simple dinner to the locals. You can always try it out as it is just located opposite the Ipoh Pet Center. Oh no, tomorrow I am going to KL already. Sign, there goes my one month holiday (><)!!!!!!!

Anyhow, Ipoh, my beautiful hometown, how I miss her! Just recently, I was able to dig up some nice photos of Ipoh. Below are the hidden mosque in Ipoh. Nice, right ? (^^)

Kwong Hong Noodles @ Gunung Rapat, Ipoh

Photobucket
Oh yes, Ipoh foodie is back once again! Of all the food I tried around Malaysia, Ipoh still serves the best food in town! This time around, I am gonna introduce you all one of the best noodles in town! >>>> Not,the Tukang JahitWinly, but, it is the Kwong Hong Coffee Shop (广丰 or 廣豐) >>> The big difference of traditional Chinese and simplified Chinese.

What we order?Hahahaha, a lot of different yang tou fu (yang liao)>> Pardon my direct translation (^^). As you can see from the pic below, they have all sorts of dishes from fried tau fu, fried fu pei, yang vegetable, yang.................Yes,almost everything is "yang" (@@)
PhotobucketPhotobucket
Of course, there are also different type of meat balls. Oooo,my fav egg plant is here too (^^)

Photobucket
These were what we ordered! Simple and nice!!!!

Photobucket
As for the noodle, you can order mix noodle or single noodle. They even have curry mee tooo ~
There are so many choices there and the price is reasonable~~Totally worth a few tries (^^)

San Chai @ Bercham

Omg, I have been MIA for such a long time! The supporters of my bloggie seems to be reducing drastically (><) Anyhow, as a continual of my life story, the reason of being not able to update my blog is that I have finally terminated Streamyx. Haiz, currently, my place is really internet-less. I am back to Ipoh again! This time, I have found pictures 2 years ago!!!! Yes, 2 years ago! So fast-nya, it feels like I am ageing quite fast...hahahahahah~

Photobucket
Here is restaurant another Ipohrian recommended. Well, since I am not staying at this area; therefore, I am not quite familiar. It is so sad that some friends said that I am not a Ipoh person, well, my real hometown is not exactly Ipoh. But, I have been staying Ipoh for so long. Due to my residence area, I am more familiar with nice food near my place. Thanks for the recommendation to my friend here. ^^

PhotobucketPhotobucket
The good thing about Ipoh is that normal food also tastes quite good. The fried egg and bean sprout were simply fantastic to the taste buds. The portion was just ngam ngam!^^

Photobucket
Of course, the restaurant main dish is curry fish head!!! (^^) Yes, we ordered a nice pot! The pot had various of vegetable and nice fish head~ It was also not that spicy to my taste. Yup, just nice ^^

Photobucket
Can you believe this?! 2 years already (><) Until today, we really had gone separate path. But, I believe our path will cross in the future (^^) !!! ~~~

Lou Wong Tauge Ayam Kuetiau (老黄芽菜鸡)@ Ipoh

This is obviously one of the top restaurants in Ipoh because most tourists or other travellers know about this beansprout chicken restaurant. The reasons of its fame? (1) The juicy and big tauge! (2) Smooth chicken. Of course, due to its popularity, it is always crowded. No joke (@@).....

PhotobucketPhotobucket
The image above showed the work station of the restaurant.I don;t really eat quite often. Usually, I will only accompany my family and friends to come here ~ They serve their drinks in such that it is fast and effective. Of course, I am sure that you all are anxious to have a look at the dishes, right (^^)~~~

PhotobucketPhotobucket
The beansprouts are large and juicy since Ipoh is quite famous with this vegetable. The reason for this restaurant to be famous is that the chicken is always very smooth. If it is like the other shops which serve you chicken that is rough and liat, I wouldn't recommended it~

PhotobucketPhotobucket
Depending on your appetite, you can order kuetiau or even rice. As for me, I am always hungry as if having a bottomless stomach; therefore, I would order rice. Their kuetiau combo with the tauge and chicken is amazing! To add on, their fishballs also make a great dish. There are a mixture of fishballs and porkballs.

Photobucket

With good food like this, it is so hard for me not to gain weight (><) Anyway, bon appetite!!!! ~~~

Taste Different Restaurant 味不同@ Bercham Ipoh

Photobucket

My parents took me personally to enjoy this seafood restaurant known as KEDAI MAKANAN RASA LAIN (味不同) which was more than satisfactory!!!  (Note: This post is quite obsolete, so prices might vary tremendously?????)...hahahahha

Every time, we went there; the people was literally human mountain human sea.. (hahahaha, 人山人海)。Finally, going there around 5.30pm, we snatched a table easily. As a so-called healthy family, we ordered vegetable 1st. Then, came the so-called Stephen Chow's 爆漿瀨尿牛丸alike only,........ the 西刀鱼丸 (Saito Fish balls)  is a must-order !

PhotobucketPhotobucket

Then, instead of order dishes and rice, we ordered fish porridge and crab mee which both of them were totally out of the ordinary! The fish porridge's taste was sweet and tasty while the crab mee was really smooth and silky (^^). You can see the crab from the pic below, it was fresh and juicy (^^)

PhotobucketPhotobucket

The meal ended with a splash! Really (^^) Because, it is never complete without prawns (^^). We ordered the cheese prawns in claypot. It was like eating a pizza. (^^). hahhahaahhha~~~~

Malaysia Current (Forever) Unresolved Issues ~ Crime, Education and Environment

(1) Crime Status in Malaysia
Even since I started my university life, I was so oblivious of Malaysia current issues. I didn't subscribe to any newspapers. After graduated, I can finally start to focus on current issues. Today, I read a special edition of Sin Chew Daily. Basically, above image tells you almost everything. The main context is that "Who let the criminals become so haughty (arrogant)?" (Don;t mind my translation).

While the police side keeps on assuring the citizens of Malaysia that Malaysia is the 16th safest place in the world, horrible murdering cases keep on popping up. The author of the article stated that it is not the media fault for emphasizing the crime in Malaysia; the real culprit is the criminals. What the author said is true!  Do you see any police cars ronda-ing at your neighbourhood? The policemen are getting salary from the taxpayers; at least, set up a patrol team in DARK ZONE!If you follow HK drama (don;t whether is true or not), they have police on the street to take care of the safety of the people there. Anyhow, the special edition focuses on 7 viewpoints as follow:

  1. Men: Used to be the protector of the family and women; but, now, they themselves are the targets of robbers, snatch thieves..... They are having problems to protect themselves..(><)
  2. Women: Often victims in many cases. Right now, even walking in shopping is dangerous to the ladies ~~ horrible
  3. Elderly : Last time, Kampung home was the heaven to them. It was peaceful and all. But, nowadays, the thieves break into the house 1st without considering whether the old people have money or not ~~~ not safe anymore. Impossible you can let the gate unlock before going to sleep like last time.
  4. Children: Easily targeted or kidnapped for ransom and others. The streets in Malaysia full of evil people waiting to strike when you turn your back just for a sec !
  5. Housewives : This is interesting because, housewives are often the victim of snatch thieves when they go out to do groceries shopping. An infamous case in Penang recently shocked the hell out of the people when 5 passers-by decided to ignore an injured victim of snatch thief ><
  6. Family: Whole family being tied up and robbed isn't anything new anymore. 4 years ago, I was still shocked to hear about this. But now, it has become so COMMON ! This means that the condition didn't improve at all.
  7. Business: Even doing businesses in some places are not that easy anymore, Cheras is one of the places which most of the shoplots are installed with gates.
Should police blame on the media on telling the citizens' truth happened in Malaysia ? No! If there isn't any cases for them to report, obviously, they will find other news!

(2) Education and University Admission
I am just glad that I am always the last batch in every decision-changing of education system. I am proud to say that I learnt mathematics and science in Malay. Then, they changed to English education which was supposed to be better. Recently, they decided to change back to Malay again~ Flip Flop ! Eventually, the student produced will be inconsistent.

University Admission and scholarship -  STPM and SPM full As can't get full scholarship. This is the old news for 10 years already! Please reveal the selection process to be fair to everyone! Why a matriculation student (sorry to some of my friends, i am not criticizing matriculation students) is given privilege 1st in course selection? Are they more superior for their course is only 1 year long? I am sure most of you know how tough STPM could be ~ Extra-curriculum might play a factor; but, a lot of academic-excellent students did their best to fulfill the requirement.

(3) Environmental Conservation
I have been very fond of pandas; I even had a panda toy which is bigger than the size of a baby. As I grew up, I gave away my toys. Again, I am not criticizing the panda, but, why we would spend so much money to import 2 pandas to Putrajaya (not the Zoo Negara) (report $1 million per year for the loan for 10 years). While some may argue, the approval of the panda loan signifies the strong relationship between Malaysia and China. However, it is best that the animal stays at their origin. Anyhow, I believed that panda is well-conserved in China. How about the animals in Malaysia? I simply google and get a list of endangered species in Malaysia:

  1. Orang Utan
  2. Tapir
  3. Rhinoceros
  4. Penyu
  5. Tiger
  6. black shrew
With the money spent to build a living ground in Putrajaya wetland, this not only doesn't consider the tourism potential, the money invested could be used to save our own endangered species. ~~~ I have to say that I really know nothing about politics; my heart is to conserve the environment in Malaysia.

Anyhow, in the older news, there were even illegal logging in Perak state which further destroyed the habitats of the wildlife. I also observed that there are some mountains in Ipoh becoming "botak". Hmmmm~~~~~

It is easy to comment! Perhaps, government is doing their best effort to curb this situation. However, even if you give 150%, THE OUTCOME IS BAD MEANS IS BAD. I think most of us just want to see IMPROVEMENT, that's all and no more~~~~

The Hidden Japanese Garden in D.R. Seenivasagam Park

Recently, feeling quite bored, I have been exploring Ipoh. One of the hidden jewels is this place - Japanese Garden in D.R. Seenivasagam Park ! If you have read a post long time ago, there is another Japanese Garden [here] which was my mom and dad's favourite. The post was written 3 years ago! Yes, unbelievably, time flew like rocket! Reading back the post, it has rekindled some passion in writing my bloggie.

Anyhow, this is the majestic entrance of the Japanese Garden in D.R. Park. It was a joint effort between Ipoh city and Fukuoka city on 1989. Therefore, the garden is same age as me...hahahahahaha~~~
Photobucket
As you can see from the features, the garden is really Japanese-like because the design was once aided by landscape expert from Japan too. Walking around the garden, this gives a sense of tranquility and relaxation.

Photobucket

Apart from that, the stone lamps are designed to be unique and similar to the ones in Japan. Basically, every lamp here is special. If you look closer, perhaps, you will discover that things are not what they seem to be..hahahahaa, sorry for being so philosophical! (^^)

Photobucket

Lastly, if you still remember one of the my header photos, I put a beautiful red bridge! Yes, it was from here. The bridges are painted in red which give a strong feel of appreciation of arts. Another feature which I am so fond of would be the path way made out of stones. It increases the connection between mineral and nature.

I wish that my home will be just like this. This comes with a price - money, hardwork, and continual improvement (^^)!!!!!

The Change in Ipoh; The Change in Me

Photobucket
If you have read my previous post on the unhealthy property development in Ipoh , the downside is that the price of property in Ipoh is so freaking expensive; consequently, the living cost is also quite high. Now, chicken rice is no more RM 3.00. ~ Anyhow, development is inevitable. But, sustainable and good development is the key role of ensuring the strength of the states. With everything rises up in price, the salary doesn't seemed to increase more. KL suffers a more severe condition.

I remembered reading an article stating that Perak basically is not among the wealthy states in Malaysia. Why? BAD MANAGEMENT! Ipoh can be like Malacca, a tourist central !!!! Ipoh can be green land with abundant of natural resources. However, what I can see now is:
  1. Expensive building ( RM 3 million house )
  2. Expensive yet delicious food ....
  3. State that refuse to go green - poor public transportation (despite some improvements); landfill-orientated without recycling scheme.
Yeah, the new Jusco really creates a lot of employment opportunities. But, I still don't see a lot of green development in Perak. Sad case. Anyhow, I am quite delighted to see the "metamorphosis" of the new bridge though (^^).

What I hope to see:
  1. Renewable energy (too much to ask for)
  2. Waste categorization (3Rs)
  3. Better transportation (ie: LRT, a bit dreamy of me ^^)
So, what change in Me? I grew up to learn that Ipoh can be a better place! (^^)

Note: The above post is purely a random-thought young lad who think only the good for Ipoh; Therefore, he is just hoping for a better future. Any comments are welcome ~

The Unhealthy Property Development in Ipoh, Perak?

Ipoh is a beautiful city located in Perak state. It is widely well-known to be a food heaven and a perfect retiring spot! The environment there is still not too developed. However, recently, when I make trip back to Ipoh, it seems to be developing quite fast. There are so many shop lots and cars in Ipoh now!

Well, it is kinda great to see such development; but, I felt sad to see the gradual increase in pollution around the city. Then, the biggest issue comes to my mind. Despite all the happening events in Ipoh, the price of material, food, transportation and houses is also increasing.

Photobucket

For instance, the mee I usual eat was just around RM2. Now, it already sky-rocketed to RM5 (almost equivalent to KL rate). Anyway, the most outrageous is the newly-built houses in Ipoh. Well, I don't want to mention which developer, but, in such ways, it actually puts heavy burden on fresh graduates and other working people. In Ipoh, it is not easy to find a high-paid job! Now, the salary didn't increase for years, but the houses' price are extremely expensive!

Now, 1stly, I think almost whole Malaysia's properties are like increasing crazily!!!!! @@~ This of course also affects Ipoh's property to increase. But, does Ipoh have that many people to buy property??? Is it necessary to build so many houses there? Is the population in Ipoh increasing? A semi-D in Ipoh is more expensive than in places like Serdang ---- around RM700k...A bit speechless when I read the advertisement! A bungalow cost RM 1 million @@~~~~~~~WOW, Ipoh, i thought is one of the poorest cities in the country....

If a fresh graduate just got a job with salary of RM 2500, is he or she capable to the houses in Ipoh? NO ~~~~~~~ Since the houses here is almost equivalent to KL, why don't people buy in KL? Therefore, instead of letting the developers keep on building non-stop, government should really take time to review such development whether is healthy or not. At least, they should control the volume and the price of the house. If too many houses are built with less demand, it would only cost the price of the houses to fall! If too few houses are built, it would cost the price to shoot as high as Mount KK!

And, lastly, Ipoh is such a  beautiful place with quite a lot of natural heritage! I hope that government should provide proper planning on the development!!!!!!! Don't just build for the sake of development and economy! Environment is still the most important!

Chinese New Year Resolution

Photobucket

Wow, I have been eating like crazy! Relatives are saying that I have gained some weights. It is time to lose those extra weights. It is not easy though with me in my final years. Oh yes, another 5 month, I will be free! But, the horrible FYP is still in my way!!!! (><) I just dug up some old photos! It has been a while since I post my fav photos on insect (Yup, I have a thing for insects@@)...Since it is CNY, this photo is so red, got the FEEL~~~Hope you all like it^^

This year, CNY, I have been a good boy cause didn't go out that much! Since everywhere is so jam, staying at home is still the best (^^). Still, my parent keeps me quite busy, going to the relatives' homes, jalan-jalan and makan-makan! Anyhow, I have seen a lot this CNY. It is quite not-a-good-feel CNY for me. Yup, I am rather moodless this year~

Oh well, my CNY resolution (since I miss my New Year Resolution), they are quite simple:
  1. Keeeeeep fittttttttttttttt, will try to lose 10 kg?
  2. Still enjoy some nice foodie around the blocks.
  3. All my friends and family are in good health.
  4. Become more leng zai? How come 18 change nvr occur to me(><)
  5. Kill my FYP, instead of letting it kills me back!
  6. Have a super rest after FYP
  7. Have a great graduation!
  8. Travel a bit because nobody to accompany me (><)
  9. Take more photos! Yes, my little FS6 is having a lot of spiders crawling on it~~~@@

A Farewell at Kinta Riverfront Ipoh

I was digging up my photos. Omg, look what I found! Some photos I forgot to share with you all! Exactly 1 year ago, we had a small farewell for a friend who was leaving to Canada again! Don't laugh! Before I GOT THE CHANCE TO POST, he already returned from Canada this year (2011)....@@ Yup, how ironic! So, just assume that we farewell him this year!...hahahaha, by the way, this post was a continual from here - The Return of Perak Cave dated 5/12/2010.....(@@) hv to sweat myself.......

Photobucket

Hope that he is not mad! But, I already uploaded on my facebook, just din share the story here. Oh well, so, my fussy Canadian friend read the newspaper and said that he wanted to try this place - Kinta Riverfront. To my surprise, the atmosphere there was quite nice! By the riverside, it was so soothing and relaxing! and they were trying to pose some ghostly photos...hahahahah~

Photobucket

But, don't be so happy 1st! The food there was crazily EXPENSIVE! From the pics above, my friend's hand is and was larger than the plate! Oh yes!!!! Guess how much? RM 7.00 per plate, they didn't even serve us rice! The coco drink was still ok only. I think we ordered the wrong dishes already, should not try Indian food over there, the portion was so small~~But, the grill bar might oso end up to be the same..Oh well,  the only thing nice there was the environment.

NOTE: It was already a year ago~~~If there are any misconceptual of this post, please correct me! Perhaps they improved their service already? If you have been visiting the same place, remember to tell me , ok ? thanks~~~

Photobucket

Despite all that, we had fun! That's what friend are for~~~ For FUN(^^) ~~And, the bridge there was pretty nice! I guess it will become a great landmark in Ipoh, if preservation of the area is well-maintained! It is great to see that Ipoh is finally moving!!!~~~

The Panmee Battles @Broga, Ipoh, and Serdang! (板面之战)

At this moment, it is already Chinese New Year! Oh yes, this year is this cute and adorable Rabbit Year! Time seems to be running in a faster pace for a 20 stmg guy! Yes, I am so old already(><)!!!! Anyway, with the hectic schedule during my CNY break, I feel so tired every day! Izit becoz I am old already? Or, am I that busy?

Anyway, like I said before, Year 3 is really not a honeymoon year! Project after project, my rosy complexion is ruined and my body is like a combination of ....duno what to say!~ There are so many stories I WANT TO tell, but, every time, it seems to be hindrance for me to do so~ Maybe is lackadaisical(><)!

Battles of The Panmee, I have prepared for so long. Yet, din really updated about this until the price already increased(><)! But, late better than never , right? Hehe, I am really full of excuses. Let's start the battle then! Before i started, I just want to say that I ngam ngam realised that I traveled three states in Malaysia just to eat Panmee~~Hahaha, super duper funny! (IPOH, PERAK; BROGA, NEGERI SEMBILAN; SERI KEMBANGAN, SELANGOR)!@@

Panmee@Broga

panmee battle
This is quite famous at Broga. If you remember last time I introduced the Broga Hill and the temples (here), this stall is located at the market area. It is easily to be located~Summary:

Main dish: Panmee (I prefer dry 1) (4/6)
Special: ABC ice kacang quite nice (top pic) (5/6)
Others: Special Dishes according to the day (don't now still got anot><) (4/6)
Price: Still okay, not the cheapest (No. 3) (3/6)

Overall:  16/24 (copying 星光大道method to calculate)

 Panmee@Seri Kembangan, Serdang

panmee battle
Located at Bukit Serdang, this stall is also quite famous! Almost every day, customers are full at this area. Summary:

Main dish: Panmee (I prefer with soup 1) (5/6)
Special: Got lamen and also cincau drink (5.5/6)
Others: Omg, the fuchuk or the soy skin (lowest pic) is really niceeeeeeee!!! muz order!!!  (5/6)
Price: Reasonable (No. 2) (4.5/6)

Overall:  20/24

Panmee @ IpohJaya, Gunung Rapat
panmee battle

One of the best panmee I ever tasted! It is located at IpohJaya, a deeper part of Gunung Rapat. Also, have to queue on Monday because got Pasar Malam that time. They will give you a little number plate! No joking! Summary:

Main dish: Panmee (I prefer with dry 1) (6/6)
Special: Don't order the drink over there, very lousy. The portion of the mee is large!!!^^ (4.5/6)
Others: If you order dry panmee, the soup quite nice also^^ (top pic) (4.5/6)
Price: Very Reasonable (No. 1) (5/6)

Overall:  20/24

From my analysis:
  • Broga version is actually okay. They offer different dishes to diversify the options(^^)
  • Serdang and Ipoh version have the same marks becoz Serdang offers other special dishes like fu chuk and cin cau drinks while Ipoh is stronger in price and also the panmee; however, the drinks at the kedai memang not nice!
After you all try all versions, share your thoughts toooooo(^^)!!!!~~

Before, I end my post!!!
Happy Chinese New Year
Rabbit Year

The Return of Perak Cave Temple@Ipoh - 霹靂洞的回歸!

It is time to give my readers some real blogging posts! OH YES! After slacking for so long, off with the movie posts. This time, I am gonna promote Perak Caves@ Ipoh. It is also known as 霹雳洞。Actually, this famous cave was closed down for about a year due to this incident (here). Therefore, it only reopened this year 2010!  (WARNING: REALLY A LOT PHOTOS - LOADING WILL TAKE SOME TIME, PLZ BE PATIENT BECOZ A LOT NICE PHOTOS(^^))

As Ipoh-rian, I had been there a few times. Actually, I went there when I was really small. I still remembered that time I was really timid and afraid to climb the stairs. As for my cousins and siblings, they were fearlessly running up and down. So, I was like a little prince back then as my aunts and parents took turn to carry me up the mountain(^^)~!~~~Anyway, those were the good old days.

Coming to the future, this time, I went along with my besties  - Kokleong and Kaheng. Yes, since Mr. KL stayed at home during his summer break, it was ashamed to not go out and explore Ipoh. Therefore, I picked this particular cave because it was ngam ngam reopened.

Perak Cave

The entrance and the surrounding of Perak Cave Temple. It really incorporated the true essence of Chinese-style architecture in its premises. I really fell in love with this temple again and again.

Perak Cave

Walking inside towards the cave temple, there were a lot of wall-paintings, mostly on the Gods and Goddesses of Chinese Odyssey. Of course, the statues of Buddha was also stunning, poising in the temple.

Perak Cave

What is so unique about Perak Caves is that there are a lot of small little passages that lead you to the same place. Oh yeah, it is really like a little labyrinth there. So, as explorers, we ventured to the behind part of the temple which has the staircase up to the top of the mountain. After walking for roughly 10 - 20 minutes, we reached the upper part of the mountain.

Photobucket

At the upper part, it was like another realm with a small temple there. Yes, really special. On our way, the little visitors - monkeys were following us. Our lovely friend, Kaheng was really afraid of the monkey. Hmmm, anyway, only me and KL continued to the top even tough little raindrops started to pour down!

peak of perak cave

Omg, the panoramic view up there was superb! It was really breathtaking . However, may I warn you all there, the track up there was really steep! Therefore, you all might be extra careful. If raining, not advisable to climb the stairs and also around 4 or 4.30pm, visitors are prohibited to climb the stairs. Therefore, be early a bit^^.
